Islam is derived from the Arabic word Salaam, which – when translated into the English language – means peace. Islam teaches us that it is through doing good deeds, wether it is prayer in the court of God Almighty or helping his creation, and seeking the pleasure of God Almighty, that the soul attains true happiness and peace. Islam encourages the individual to focus on keeping the body, mind and soul healthy and vibrant, through the remembrance, obedience and worshipping of God Almighty. So do you think a religion which very literally means peace could ever promote violence?
